Bowling Green City Manager

Nearly seven months of searching has finally come to an end.

Bowling Green City Commissioners unanimously selected Kevin DeFebbo as the new City Manager.

DeFebbo is the current County Manager of Schenectady County, New York.

Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker says DeFebbo has a strong financial background and a firm understanding of municipal budgeting through his previous experiences.

Bowling Green City Commissioners selected DeFeebo for the position, but it was a citizen's committee and some city employees who began the selection process months ago and presented the commissioners with the finalists.

In June the Board of Commissioners created the City Manager Selection Committee composed of 7 Bowling Green citizens and 7 city employees.

This groups responsibilities included reviewing the 34 city manager applications and then narrowing down the search, this way everyone would have a say.

The search for a new city manager began when after 28-years of service, Bowling Green's former City Manager, Chuck Coates stepped down after the Board of Commissioners asked him to resign, in the wake of what they say were "failures in management." That came just two weeks after the FBI arrested the city's Chief Financial Officer, Davis Cooper for allegedly embezzling more than $2 million dollars.

DeFebbo will come to Bowling Green November 15th for a reception in his honor. He will officially begin his duties January 1, 2006.
