Friends, family and community members gathered on June 2 to pay last respects to a Perry County Magistrate who was shot to death last week.

The funeral for Jimmy Darrell Neace began this afternoon at Maggard's Mountain View Chapel in Hazard.

About 1,500 people came to pay their respects to Neace.

State Senator Brandon Smith says Neace was one of the best public servants the county has ever seen.

Neace and another county employee, Lewallen Caudill, were shot by Jerry Fugate at a gas station.

Fugate then turned the gun on himself.

Caudill's funeral is tomorrow.

Fugate's funeral was today, but his family asked to keep it private.
