Humane Society volunteers say their mantra has always been "spay, neuter, adopt."

Now, the Warren County volunteers have been adding a new request; donate.

Between the RePet store and the Humane Society, there are 150 cats in Bowling Green waiting to be adopted.

Now, there could be a very simple way that you can help them land a cozy home.

It's business as usual at the Outer Loop, but beneath all this tough exterior, there's a tender heart.

"Unfortunately, shelters all over the country are overcrowded year round," says Outer Loop and RePet owner Tracy Moser.

Tracy is hoping to help solve the problem and she needs your shoeboxes to do it.

"Something so simple as a shoe box that they can get in and cuddle with makes them feel comfortable, makes their stay more pleasant, and it makes the cat more adoptable," Tracy explains.

It's an effort that couldn't come at a better time.

"Every spring and summer, we go through a tremendous intake increase with cats and kittens and this year, unfortunately, is no different," says Warren County Humane Society Director Lorri Hare.

"There are days we're receiving 30 to 50 cats and kittens every single day."

"A lot of people don't realize that for one human born, there are ten cats born," Tracy adds.

"That means, if you've got five people in your family, to keep up with overflow at the shelter, you should have fifty cats at home and that's never going to happen."

Tracy's quick to tell you that's a problem only spaying and neutering can fix.

She says the shoebox effort can help, even when the least likely places are adding their own outside the box ideas.

"There's a need and the public can do something so simple. Just donate a shoebox or visit a cat at a shelter that's uncomfortable in a cage," Tracy concludes.

You can donate your shoeboxes at Outer Loop in the Greenwood Mall, at RePets in Fairview Plaza and the Warren County Humane Society on Old Louisville Rd.
