The son of a state lawmaker pleaded not guilty Monday to a manslaughter charge in the death of a Murray State University graduate student.

Twenty-year-old Harrison Yonts also had his $500,000 cash bond reduced to $25,000 during the brief court proceeding.

Yonts was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of Nadia Shaheen.

The 63-year-old Shaheen was struck and killed by a car on a roadside early Friday morning.

Shaheen is a native of Egypt who was to graduate in December in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program.

Yonts' father is Representative Brent Yonts of Greenville, who was in court for his son's arraignment but declined to comment.

Harrison Yonts is a sophomore at Murray State and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for Dec. 13.
