2 Buildings Burn in Murray's Court Square

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- Two buildings in Murray's historic Court Square have caught on fire with firefighters working to control the flames.

The fires started at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Murray Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Tinsley told WKYX in Paducah said about 3,000 gallons of water a minute was being pumped onto the blaze. Tinsley says firefighters were concerned about the excess weight of the water on the buildings damaged by the flames.

Tinsley says the state Fire Marshal has been called, but the investigation may not start until Wednesday afternoon.

The fire comes in a year in which a building collapsed and a roof collapsed, impacting two businesses on the square.
