UPDATE: 2 Killed in 10-Vehicle Crash Near Murfreesboro, TN

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- Two people on their way to the Bonnaroo music festival were killed when a tractor-trailer overturned and crashed into multiple other vehicles, including another semi.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 12:19 a.m. on Thursday as cars were slowing due to heavy traffic from an earlier accident on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County. Truck driver Stacey Colvin was unable to stop in time and overturned, hitting eight other vehicles.

Two of the vehicles caught fire. One became engulfed, killing the driver, 28-year-old Brandon Wilson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and a passenger, 25-year-old Deja Morris of West Harrison, Ind.

Five others were injured. Seven people, including the truck driver, were uninjured.

Colvin, of Campbellsville, Ky., was cited for failure to exercise due care. Additional charges are pending.

MURDFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — A tractor-trailer truck plowed into a wreck that occurred earlier, killing two people and injuring five others southeast of Nashville.

Police said the crash occurred around midnight Wednesday on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County. Two vehicles burst into flames.

WSMV-TV reported that sheriff's deputies responding to the crash were able to pull two people to safety, but could not reach two others trapped in their car. Three of the victims were taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville.

The names of those killed and injured were not immediately available.

The eastbound lanes of I-24 were expected to be closed through the morning commute. The truck overturned in the collision.

Eastbound traffic was being rerouted onto U.S. 41. The westbound lanes remained open.
