Western has held a December ceremony since 1996 and has seen the number of fall graduates increase as the University's enrollment grows.

10 honor Graduates were recognized during the 158th commencement.

Didle Arena was full of proud parents today but as we found out not all of them were watching from the audience.

Susan Devore is very proud of her son Lucas. He's obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Minor in Physics from Western Kentucky University. Lucas is also very proud of his mother.

Susan is also graduating from Western with a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems - a long awaited accomplishment.

Susan is familiar with Western's campus. She first attended the university in 1976 but dropped out when Lucas came along. Susan tried to finish her career on several occasions by going part time but she never managed to finish her requirements.

In 2003 Susan lost her job and made a risky decision to invest in a full time education along-side Lucas.

Susan says she felt getting a higher education was her ticket to financial stability.

Susan says: "it takes a lot of support but it can be done."

The Devore's say having each other provided the motivation they needed to reach their goals.

Susan and Lucas say they are both ready for the working world and will always look back at this experience as a journey they took together.

The mom and son team are both considering attending graduate school in the future. But for now they say they are going to celebrate this special occasion.
