Families and Businesses are Preparing for Soldier Deployment

As Fort Campbell troops are preparing to deploy, military families and area communities area bracing for the potential loss of more than 20,000 troops.

In 1991, Christian County was hit hard when the entire division, then 16,000 strong, aided in the Persian Gulf War. The Hopkinsville/Christian County Chamber of Commerce anticipates a decrease in sales for restaurants, grocery stores, apartment complexes and car dealerships.

Community leaders are optimistic the loss in revenue will be short term and offset by the call up of several hundred National Guardsmen and Reservists soon to be stationed at Fort Campbell during deployment.
