Lieutenant Jerry Wells of the Bowling Green Police Department has been named president for the New Year.
Wells has been a member of the organization since it reformed in 2001.
Western Kentucky University Police Chief and last year's President Robert Deane says the election of a Caucasian man to fill the post serves to show the NAACP is for all people and has nothing to do with a person's color.
Wells says his goals for the year are to raise organization's profile within the community and increase membership.
The NAACP meets every second Tuesday of the month at the Bowling Green Police Department.
