Ford announced today it is cutting between 25 and 30 thousand jobs in North America, about 20 percent of the company's work force.
The announcement hardly came as a surprise to those who had followed the slumping fortunes of the nation's automakers.
Just two months earlier, General Motors announced it would cut 30 thousand manufacturing jobs and close nine North American assembly plants.
Plants in Missouri, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio and Windsor, Ontario will be idled under the plan.
The Louisville Assembly Plant and Kentucky Truck Plant survived the cuts.
