A Kentucky state representative is sponsoring a bill aimed at increasing miners' safety.
Brent Yonts from Greenville says the state needs to hire enough mine inspectors to make sure each of Kentucky’s mines are inspected on a monthly basis.
There are currently 54 inspectors working within the state.
Eight miners died on the job in Kentucky last year.
Before the Sago Mine disaster that was more than any other state in the nation according to the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration.
