President in Nashville

By Associated Press |

President Bush will be looking to build momentum with a three-day trip starting today in Nashville.

The president says the country "is strong" and says "together we will make it stronger."

He kicked off the sixth year of his presidency last night with a vow that the US will compete and excel in the global economy.

Bush also declared the US will break its addiction to foreign oil.

Bush used his speech to express confidence in the future while acknowledging we are in what he called, "a period of consequence."

Such factors as the war in Iraq and the high cost of health care and energy have caused his poll numbers to slump. But he's vowing his administration will "finish well."
