House Passes Budget

It's one down, two to go as the Kentucky House of Representatives pass a budget bill by a vote of 95-4, with one abstention.

Last year, the House passed a budget, but the Senate failed to approve the spending plan. This session's budget does not cut secondary or primary education funding, nor does it increase taxes.

The bill does not cut human services, public security, and safety. Now the bill goes to the Senate, where the Kentucky League of Cities is gearing up for a fight. That is because the bill would take $5 million from cities next year and give that money to county jails so they can take more inmates.
