American Idol Contestants with Warren County Ties Advance to Next Round

Kelly Pickler and Will Makar were able to breath a sigh of relief following Thursday night's competition on American Idol. Neither of them were voted off the show.

South Central Kentuckians, some of which who've never even watched the popular reality series, are flocking to their televisions each week. That's because both Will and Kelly have relatives and friends living in Bowling Green. "I tell everyone my cousin is on American Idol, it's so cool!" Will's cousin Sarah Murphy says she wasn't surprised when he made it on the show. "We always knew he'd make it."

Murphy describes Will as talented and determined. "Will has been singing since I can remember. He's been in the Houston Choir, school choirs, he's pretty much been all over the world singing. This is just his time to shine."

Will's mother, Shirlyn Hudson Makar, grew up in Smiths Grove. She worked at Warren Central High School from 1972-1981. The Makar's, who now live in Woodlands, Texas, come back to their Kentucky roots at least twice a year to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Local viewers are also cheering for Kelly Pickler. The blonde hair beauty who wowed judges and fans this week with her dynamic performance has a sister who lives in Bowling Green.

Watch for Kelly and Will next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on American Idol.
