REPRESENTATIVE ROB WILKEY HAS PROPOSED A BILL THAT WOULD EXCLUDE E-MAILS...TELEPHONE RECORDS...AND CORRESPONDENCE TO AND FROM LAWMAKERS AS PUBLIC RECORD.
WILKEY SAYS HIS BILL IS MEANT TO PROTECT THE PRIVACY OF CONSTITUENTS...WHO SOMETIMES WRITE OR CALL SEEKING HELP WITH PERSONAL SITUATIONS. THE PRESS ASSOCIATION SAYS THE BILL WOULD PREVENT THE PUBLIC FROM KNOWING HOW LAWMAKERS CONDUCT BUSINESS. WILKEY SAYS HE ISN'T TRYING TO HIDE ANYTHING FROM SCRUTINY WITH HIS BILL...BUT WOULD ALLOW LAWMAKERS TO RELEASE COMMUNICATIONS VOLUNTARILY. THE BILL HAS BE SENT TO THE HOUSE STATE GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE
