Utilities... rent... these bills never go away.

But what if you can't pay them this month?

That's a reality many people face daily.

Community Action of Southern Kentucky, along with the "Federal Emergency Management Agency or "FEMA" are partnering to get emergency aid to those in financial rough spots.

"Its been really hard. We've never asked anyone for help, we've always paid our way and paid our bills and stuff," says Linda Slagle.

Its been a challenging month for Slagle and her husband.

A car accident several months ago left her disabled and now only there's only one income in their home.

"Like everybody knows, everything has went up. Our electric bill really doubled this time and the water bill, the gas bill has just about doubled for this month," says Slagle.

So now Slagle is seeking help from CASKY through their "Emergency Food and Shelter Grant".

The money is given to clients that have nowhere else to go... but have to pay their bills.

"What happened this month that won't allow them to pay their bills, its not something thats been a repeated process," says CASKY's Leslie Talley.

Those seeking aid must have bills that are past due or five days away from being due.

In addition to helping people pay off their bills, the grant also allows for food pantries to help those who are struggling make it through the hard times.

"I think all clients are very appreciative that they receive services to keep their lights on, to keep their water to help them keep a roof over their head if we're helping them with rent," continues Talley.

Now, Slagle is hoping that with the help of Community Action she won't have to worry about her bills in the future.

"Its really made me feel a lot better today knowing that there is help out there for people that need it and has never asked for help," says Slagle.

Clients are only allowed to use this grant once within a several month cycle.
