A U.S. Navy veteran from Louisville has become the 2,500th person interred at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery at Radcliff.
The Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs says William Alan Thompson was interred on Wednesday. Thompson served in the Navy from 1974 to 1978, earning the National Defense Service Medal.
The agency says he joins 2,075 veterans and 425 dependent spouses and children interred at the central Kentucky cemetery. Eleven service members who died on active duty, including four who were killed in action, are also interred there.
The cemetery opened in June 2007. It mainly serves veterans and family members from a 75-mile radius of the cemetery.
