Rape Allegations Recanted

An area man convicted of rape may be allowed to go free after his teenage stepdaughter recants her story.

Six years ago, 35-year-old Ben Kiper was convicted of rape based on the testimony of his 10-year-old stepdaughter. He is serving his sentence at the Green River Correctional Complex in Central City.

During the trial, there was no physical evidence, no medical exam, and no testimony from any witnesses at Kiper's trial.

The girl is now sixteen and has recanted her allegations. She says her stepmother forced her to falsely accuse Kiper during a custody dispute.

Butler Circuit Judge Ronnie Dortch must now decide if Kiper can go free or serve out a lengthy prison term.
