The Kentucky National Guard announced today the death of one of its own.
In a press conference this afternoon officials say staff Sergeant Brock A. Beery of Whitehouse, Tennessee was killed when his armored vehicle encountered an explosive just west of Fallujah yesterday.
He was assigned to a unit based out of Bowling Green.
That unit mobilized for "Operation: Iraqi Freedom" in March of 2005 and deployed to the Persian Gulf that July.
Beery is survived by his wife, Sara, and a seven-year-old daughter.
He is the ninth Kentucky Army National Guard soldier to lose his life in Iraq.
