i find it interesting that the last line is, "But the church is known for promoting progressive social work, such as desegregation and fighting for the rights of women, gays and the homeless." It makes you think that he was a very conservative loser that can't handle change even though the statement right before that said that the motive wasn't known yet. Also, i believe that that tighter gun control won't do anything. if a person wants a gun, they can get a gun. it's not that hard.
I started going to the Unitarian Universalist church in Lexington, Kentucky this past April and have felt so at home for the first time. They accept me although I question traditional religion in relation to science. Church should be a place where you spread the word about peace, love and living a life focused on setting a good example for children and adults. What someone believes about God is his own business and he shouldn't be judged by whether he believes or not. Those who hate others because of their personal understanding of what the meaning of life is are sick. Unfortunately, there may be many in our society who have hate levels close the the shooter in this incident. Wake up America----we are the land of the free and unfortunately, the Unitarians have been forced to have a higher level of bravery in order to be themselves. Please accept our right to live religions of all kinds (as long as they are not directly hurting anyone) including no religion.
They'll deny, once more, ever inciting or intending for this type of tragedy to happen, but I blame the Bill OReillys, Rush Limbaughs and Reverend Hagees in this country for preying on the weak-minded and desperate. The bitter gun owners do exist. And some Americans think the Sunnis and Shiites are barbaric for the way some of them treat one another. America...look within.
I think we need much stricter gun control, anyone who has a record of being violent should not be allowed to purchase a gun and should have their property search to have their guns removed (with probable cause, such as when his ex-wife reported his threats to shoot her).
As a member of the local Unitarian Universalist Church, I find this very sad. I would feel sad for any church involved in such a tragedy. I know that the congregation would have tried to help soothe the shooter. This just proves to me that there truly is no safehaven in this world anymore. Very sad news. The Unitarians practice peace, unity, and social action. The irony is that it is the kind of church that would embrace someone in need like Mr. Adkisson, and try to help him. My heart goes out to all involved. I also believe that just as they are mourning their loss, they are also thinking about Mr. Adkisson and wishing him well.
This world has went CRAZY. Not safe no matter where you are...Prayers for all that have been affected by this...God Bless You All!
