The 2002 Class of Glasgow High School is creating a memorial scholarship in memory of their classmate who died Monday in Iraq.
Twenty-two-year-old Will Gardner was part of the 101st Airborne Division based in Fort Campbell.
He died from a non-combat related gunshot wound.
Teachers and administrators at Gardner’s alma mater say it's been a tough week as word of Gardner’s death has spread.
They say Gardner had just visited many of his former teachers last August, before he headed to Iraq.
Belcher says Gardner was always inspired to join the military; he once talked about being a Navy Seal.
Memorial services for Gardner and two other 101st soldiers, killed in a roadside bomb, will be held in Iraq.
All three will be honored at Fort Campbell on April 19.
