A man is dead after being hit by a train in Lexington and two others are charged with manslaughter.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the arrests of 44-year-old Steven Dykes and 49-year-old Charles Atkins -- both of Lexington. They are charged with first-degree manslaughter and evidence tampering.

A police citation says the men assaulted the victim and caused his death, then moved the body to the train tracks.

It could not be immediately determined whether the men had attorneys.

Police said they didn't immediately know the identity of the man who was hit Thursday.

Fire Department Major Ed Davis said the R.J. Corman Railroad Company train was traveling about 40 miles per hour when the engineer saw the man lying on the tracks.

The man did not respond when the engine horn was blown several times.
