Child abuse cases continues to grow in Kentucky with over 65-thousand cases throughout the state.
Dawn Long of the Barren River Child Advocacy Center says our culture's self-sufficient attitude may be partially to blame.
"I think in our culture it's really hard for parents to say they need help and sometimes they may feel judged," said Long.
Long says there's more that people can do to help prevent this from happening in your community.
"Being really sensitive to people that you know or that you are around recognizing a parent may be feeling really overwhelmed and reaching out to them... That's really how you prevent child abuse.... everything after that is reactionary," saild Long.
April is child abuse awareness month and it is represented by the blue ribbons around the area.
