Tuesday night the Bowling Green City Commission voted in favor of promoting BGPD Major Bill Waltrip to Chief of Police. He will succeed Chief Gary Raymer who is resigning Aug. 31.
Waltrip is 48 years old and a 22-year veteran of the force. He and Captain Jerry Wells were the only candidates for Chief.
City officials say both men are very qualified, but Major Waltrip scored a bit higher overall.
Waltrip will assume his new duties as Chief Sept. 1.
