Two Warren County congregations will not be able to meet at their normal place of worship.

We now bring you the latest on two church fires that occurred eight miles apart from each other, and a person of interest who is now in custody.

Fire raced through Mount Pleasant Church of Christ on Wednesday.

Again on Friday, fire consumed Mount Zion Church of Christ.

Now, many are wondering if arson is involved.

"We don't know of anybody that would be disgruntled," said David Eadens, former minister of Mount Zion. "The church certainly hasn't done anything to anybody."

Officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms still say there is not yet enough information to rule either of the fires as arson.

However, 56-year-old Mike Gaddis of Bowling Green has been arrested as a person of interest but not for arson.

"Mr. Gaddis is alleged to have made a threatening call to a local minister," said Kevin Kelm, Resident Agent in Charge for the Bowling Green ATF. "He was arrested for making harassing communications. Just because of the nature of the communication and the fact that it involved a church pastor, obviously, that's of interest to us."

No one can be charged with arson until experts determine the origin and cause of the fire and confirm it definitely involved arson.

This process has been known to take time.

But in the meantime, local residents and churches remain concerned.

"Law enforcement agencies in the area are stepping up patrols and picking up additional surveillance and doing what we can to help protect that property," said Kelm. "Sure people are concerned, and I certainly don't blame them. I'm concerned as well."

Even if both church fires are confirmed to be arson, a connection between them may be difficult to decide.

"That's something that we have to look at and see if there is a relationship," said Kelm. "In some cases, we may not absolutely determine that relationship if one exists until we apprehend the suspect and they admit to it."
