A high school football player in Louisville has died three days after he and a teammate collapsed in practice.

Norton Healthcare spokeswoman Patti Killion told The Courier-Journal that 15-year-old Max Gilpin died August 23 at Kosair Children's Hospital.

The sophomore offensive lineman and a senior player at Pleasure Ridge Park High School had trouble breathing after Wednesday's practice and both were hospitalized.

The other player was released Friday.

School district officials have looked at paperwork for the 94-degree practice, spoke to coaches and found no wrongdoing on their part.

The players had regular water breaks.

Under state athletic rules, coaches are supposed to take special precautions when the heat index exceeds 95 degrees.
