By the end of the decade, soft drink vending machines will be only a memory at American elementary and middle schools.
Former President Clinton announced the agreement today.
His foundation helped broker the deal with the nation's largest beverage distributors.
Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will sell only water, unsweetened juice, and low-fat milks in elementary and middle schools.
High school vending machines will only be supplied with diet sodas.
The changes are expected to be in place at most public schools by the 2008 - 2009 school year.
