Gov. Steve Beshear has announced a plan to get more than 35,000 additional children enrolled in the state's health care plan for low-income families over the next two years.

Beshear is unveiling the plan during stops in several communities on Wednesday.

The governor called it "shameful" that many children don't have the health care services they need.

Beshear said the plan will cost $22.8 million in 2009 and $89.6 million in 2010.

The plan calls for informing poor families of the availability of the state's health care program for children.

That will including mailing post cards to the parents of newborns across Kentucky to tell them about the program.
