The horse known as the filly who gave it her all in the 2008 Kentucky Derby, only to be euthanized after breaking down past the finish line, was remembered on September 7.

A memorial service was held for Eight Belles this afternoon in the garden of Churchill Downs, where the filly is buried.

Many came out to remember the horse, including her trainer.

The service ended with the unveiling of a plaque commemorating Eight Belles.

The three-year-old finished second in the Kentucky Derby, before breaking both of her front legs.
