Five miners are dead following an explosion in an Eastern Kentucky coal mine. One other miner was able to walk out of the mine.
The site of the blast is the Darby Mine Number One in Harlan County. Federal Mine Officials say it happened sometime before one o'clock Saturday morning. Governor Ernie Fletcher was on the scene Saturday, where he says they are still searching for answers.The men killed in the mine were apparently doing maintenance work at the time of the explosion. Authorities are identifying Amon Brock, Jimmy Lee, Roy Middleton, George William Petra and Paris Thomas Junior as the five miners who were killed. Miner Paul Ledford survived the explosion...And was treated and released from the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stony Gap, Virginia. Ten miners have been killed in Kentucky so far in 2006.
