Cooper's Ex-Wife Asking Suit Be Dismissed

The ex-wife of former Bowling Green CFO, Davis Cooper says she should not have to pay back the money her ex-husband stole.

Marcia Hayes Cooper Cox asked a Davies County Circuit Judge to dismiss the city's lawsuit against her. Cox claimed she didn't know the money ex-husband Davis Cooper put into a pair of private bank accounts was stolen.

The city filed suit against Cox in April, in an effort to recoup some of the money Cooper stole from the city over a period of more than two decades.

Bowling Green is asking for Cox to give back $700,000 based on estimates by lawyers on spending Cooper may have done on Cox's behalf during their marriage.

Mayor Elaine Walker says, whether or not Davis Cooper's first wife was aware of where the money came from isn't relevant and that the money needs to come back to the city.

Last September, Cooper pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $2.5 million from the city. He is serving eight years in Federal prison.
