Today was a day of goodbyes for family and friends of Brooks Mitchell, a Bowling Green man tragically killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday morning.
Many people at the funeral home were Mitchell's childhood friends, colleagues in the banking business and fellow bikers. Family members say they are thankful for the outpouring from the Bowling Green and Brownsville communities, where Mitchell grew up. Four of his closest friends spoke Wednesday morning at the funeral and told funny stories about the WBKO weatherman turned banker who was never at a loss for words.
Charles English Sr. shared a discussion he had with Brooks shortly before he died. English said Brooks told him he'd never been happier. His oldest daughter had just gotten married, his other daughter had a great new job and he and his wife were happier than ever.
Family and friends say they will rely on faith to help them get through this tough time. The community shares the family's sense of loss. Brooks served as chairman on Bowling Green's Downtown Redevelopment Authority and was CEO of Hancock County Bank and Trust.
