Whether it's by baking, washing cars, or creating art, the American Red Cross has a way you can use your craft to become a hero.
It's all part of the upcoming Heroes for the American Red Cross event.
"We want to involve as many people as possible in our community," says Heroes for the American Red Cross campaign chairman Romanza Johnson. "We'll be a team effort that we're making for the Red Cross."
The South Central Kentucky chapter of the American Red Cross is on the lookout for heroes.
"It's community, individuals, it can be schools, churches, civic organizations, local fire departments, police departments, that come together and in any way they see fit, raise a thousand dollars for the American Red Cross," explains Executive Director of the South Central Kentucky chapter of the Red Cross Jennifer Capps.
The Red Cross is hoping to find their heroes in time for the event running October 21 through November 15.
Officials say funds are particularly needed this year.
"We have lost some of the funding we've had in the past and also, we've had so many requests this particular year," Johnson says.
Among those requests include assistance given to several Kentucky counties following February's tornadoes in addition to the Red Cross's training of volunteers to serve those impacted by hurricanes Ike and Gustav.
But how can area heroes raise a thousand dollars quick? Red Cross officials say the sky's the limit.
"People could have bake sales, car washes, garage sales," says Capps. "One school system sold duct tape, a dollar an inch. At the end of it, they duct taped the principal to the wall. That's a great way to get the kids involved. It just keeps our services going. Leaving the funds to provide those services to the community that needs them is essential for the Red Cross."

Capps adds both Barren and Logan counties are also in the midst of a Heroes campaign.
