ELKHART, Ind. (AP) -- Three people are dead after a shooting at an Elkhart grocery store.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Trent Smith said at a news conference that Elkhart police received a call about an active shooter about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Smith said a gunman walked into Martin's Super Market and used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot and kill a woman, then walked to another aisle and shot and killed another woman. Smith said the women -- one an employee and the other a shopper -- were found about 12 aisles apart.

Smith also said the shooter was pointing at a third person when police arrived. The gunman was killed by Elkhart police.

The identities of the victims and gunman were not released.

ISP Trooper Brooks Shirk said the shooting is under investigation.
