LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Lexington police say about 3:30 Sunday morning two armed men walked up to a man and woman who were staying at the Quality Inn off of Newtown Pike and forced them into their room at gunpoint.
Police tell us a third man was inside.
We're told the robbers went through their belongings and stole their credit cards and cash.
"It really is a scary situation," said Shane Smith who was staying in the room above the people who were robbed.
He says it's terrifying to think about how close the armed men came to the 11 young softball players who were staying in nearby rooms.
"What's really scary about it is we let the girls run back and forth to the pool and you don't think much about it till you hear about it," Smith said.
"That's shocking. My parents and my entire team is here," Monty Todd said.
He tells us the 14-year-old softball players will head back to western Kentucky after Sunday’s games, but he says their closest call may have already happened.
"It's terrifying," said Todd.
Smith said, "You don't know nowadays what is going to happen, you just never know. I guess a person just has to be prepared, especially if you've got all these young girls."
Police tell us the robbers also stole a gun from the hotel room.
Investigators believe the people who were robbed came to Lexington for a gun show.
