California has become the first state to require chain restaurants to put nutritional information on menus and menu boards.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill into law.
By next year, menus will include the amount of calories, saturated fat, carbs, and sodium in each item.
Violators could face fines of up to 500-dollars.
A similar rule took effect in New York City this year.
