Heroic Role Reversal

A teacher calls a former student "her hero" after he kept a mugger from stealing her purse Tuesday night in the parking lot of Greenwood Square off of Scottsville Road.

Darlene Lamb says she fell to the ground outside the Kroger store after someone hit her over the head and tried to grab her purse. Lamb says when her former student, Chris Watkins, appeared and yelled, the suspect then let go of the purse and Watkins chased after the man, but the suspect fled on foot.

So what should you do to try to prevent this from happening to you? Bowling Green Police Officer Tom Forte suggests parking in well-lit areas when going to a store with a parking lot. It's also important to be observant of your surroundings at all times.

Additionally, if you wear a purse with a strap, make sure you put it around your shoulders and across your chest. If you carry a clutch-purse, it's important to hold onto it tightly near the top of your arm.
