Last weekend's heavy rainfall put some area farmers behind on getting their corn and soybean seeds in the ground. But several days of dry weather this week has eased the situation for some, especially for no-till farmers. These farmers are able to get back into fields and set out crops quicker then those who practice conventional tillage methods.

Barren County agricultural extension agent Gary Tilghman says his farmers in his county seem to be right on schedule as far as grain planting is concerned. He expects all corn and bean planting to be completed by mid-May.

According to the University of Kentucky's department of agriculture, about 25 percent of this year's corn crop has been planted so far.
