Authorities in central Kentucky say a fire that has burned more than 150 acres in Daniel Boone National Forest has been contained.

Forest fire management officer Mitch Gandy, says the fire - which is northeast of Slade, KY - is expected to burn 576 acres by the time it burns out.

Because the terrain is too steep and rocky to dig a fire line around the fire, firefighters have gone to using natural boundaries, such as creeks, hiking trails, and the Red River, and set fires.

The official fire season for the 700-thousand acre forest begins October 15th.

But Gandy says more fires are being seen because of our unusually dry conditions.
