The Warren County Juvenile Detention Center is under investigation for possibly letting an accused rapist go free.
On June 13, a 17-year-old male was taken into custody, charged with raping a 14-year-old Logan County girl in a home on East Second Street in Russellville.
Russellville Police Detective Kenny Edmonds says when Logan County officials attempted to transfer the minor to Warren County Juvenile Detention Center, they were told he could not be admitted because he did not have a social security number.
With no other alternative, Logan County officials released the suspect. Police speculate he is an illegal immigrant and has now left the country.
Leah Settle with the State's Department of Juvenile Justice says Warren County staff made an error in not admitting the 17-year-old to the Juvenile Detention Center.
She says an investigation into the case is now underway and disciplinary action against departmental staff of the detention center will most likely be taken.
