Most students in our area are in the midst of CATS testing. In order to prepare for those tests teachers must follow curriculum guidelines through the year but those guidelines do not leave much time for recess.
In fact in Adair County most of the schools do not have recess. Many educators say recess is important though because students need that extra half hour of free time during the day to get some exercise and socialize with friends. Some educators say they do have recess but don't call it that in their school agenda. They usually have to label recess as motor development or social interaction skills to comply with state curriculum guidelines.
