WKU President Gary Ransdell presented a proposal to the Commission during a special work session to award contracts to a bond counsel and a financial advisor.
Western asked the Commission to re-finance the bonds.
"We think that improved market conditions and different interest structures since the original project was financed suggest that its a good time to refinance the debt, save some money, and flatten the payments over an extended period of time," says President Ransdell.
The Commission approved WKU's request and approved Stoll, Keenon, & Ogden as bond counsel and Hilliard Lyons as the financial advisor.
The Commission also voted four to one to pass a municipal order to allow the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to purchase a scoreboard for the Bowling Green Country Club.
The board would cost more than $27,000 and would be taken from the transient room taxes.
Mayor Elaine Walker says the scoreboard could help entice more tournaments to the areas.
In addition to the scoreboard, the money would also go to purchasing standard score boards for the golf carts.
