Water Loan Helps Rural Areas

Many of us take water for granted but for some area residents who live in rural parts of Kentucky that don't get water delivered to their homes, it's a precious commodity. Monday, the USDA Rural Utilities Service gave the Green River Valley Water Treatment Plant $6.1 million.

The money will be used to make additions and improvements to the existing water plant.

The plant will be able to process six million gallons of water a day versus the previous $4 million. The plant serves more than 20,000 people in Hart, Barren, Metcalfe, Green, and Edmonson counties. Improvements will not be finished until 2004.
