Seatbelt Law Takes Effect

By  |

Starting today, if you're not buckled up you could be written up!

The general assembly recently passed the "primary seatbelt" law. It gives law enforcement the right to pull you over if you're found without your seatbelt on.

From now until December 31, drivers who are pulled over will be given a warning as a way to get people used to the new legislation. In January, officers will start giving offenders $25 fines for not buckling up.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hopes the law will mean about 60 fewer fatalities next year and almost 400 fewer severe injuries.
