Friday afternoon democratic candidate for governor Bruce Lunsford announced he was dropping out of the gubernatorial race. It was a shocking announcement for many. Just yesterday Lunsford contributed more than 150,000 dollars to his personally funded eight million dollar campaign.
Lunsford said in his news conference this afternoon negative ads between his opponent Ben Chandler and himself had gotten out of hand. Lunsford is endorsing democratic candidate Jody Richards. Lunsford says Richards is a respectable candidate with a positive ad campaign.
A poll by the Courier Journal in Louisville shows Chandler with 31 percent of the vote, Lunsford with 19 percent, and Jody Richards with 14 percent. As a reminder Lunsford's name will still be on the voter's ballot but he is not running for election.
