Families always celebrate when one of their soldiers comes home, but when it's only a routine leave, soldiers are left knowing they have to return.

For Specialist Cory Sublett, 18 days are all he has to spend with his family before heading back over seas.

A parade is always a great way to show support for our veterans.

"There's a great turnout," said Specialist Sublett. "Of course it's a beautiful day. Everybody looked happy. That's what I was glad to see. A lot of support helps a whole lot."

But today's parade represented the present as much as the past.

Specialist Cory Sublett is home from serving as a gunner and motor transport operator overseas, but he's only here for 18 days.

"Seeing everybody, family, friends, and everything, it just feels like home," said Specialist Sublett.

He says being in the parade with veterans of past wars was a true honor.

Being in the army is something Sublett felt he should do.

"Just to do my part," said Specialist Sublett. "You know, I just wanted to do my part basically. Support my country and do the right thing."

To Sublett, the right thing to do is to continue helping others overseas, and the ability to be in the parade during his short time home is something Sublett says his family really wanted him to do.

"It's a great honor for my son to be in the military," said Daniel Sublett, Cory's father. "It shows that he supports our union, our nation, our United States, and what we stand for. It's a great honor to have veterans to do that. It just happens my sons one of them."

"I reckon he's proud of me," said Specialist Sublett. "It's a good thing for me to do it. Hometown boy in a hometown parade."

Sublett adds he isn't sure how long it will be before he gets to come home again.
