Monroe County Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year
A teacher at Gamaliel Elementary School is the Monroe County Wal-mart Teacher of the Year.

Ellen Tandy teaches fourth and fifth grade science, and fourth grade art.
Gamaliel Elementary Assistant Principal Christie Biggerstaff says Tandy is a "caring and compassionate person"... who "has dedicated countless hours to many after-school endeavors."
Tandy has helped coach Gamaliel's academic team, and served as the Junior BETA sponsor for years.
She recently received a $1,000 check for being the Wal-mart Teacher of the Year.
