Fletcher and Fancy Farm

A spokesman for Gov. Fletcher says the governor will not attend the annual Fancy Farm picnic.

Jodi Whitaker has told the Murray Ledger and Times that the governor will attend the National Governors Association summer meeting in South Carolina. U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield and Secretary of State Trey Grayson are the highest ranking Republicans scheduled to speak at the picnic.

Democrat Otis Hensley of Harlan is the only other candidate who has officially entered the governor's race. He also says he will not attend the Fancy Farm event.

Fancy Farm is a Graves County town about 11 miles northwest of Mayfield. Since 1880 Fancy Farm has been the home of the annual Fancy Farm Picnic. It's held on the grounds of Fancy Farm Elementary School, formerly the Saint Jerome Parish School, on the first Saturday in August. It has become a traditional venue for political campaigning.
