A 5-year-old child shot in the head by her older brother has died at a Lexington hospital.

Kentucky State Police say the 16-year-old sibling was playing with a handgun when it discharged and struck the little girl at their home in Clay county this week.

Investigators will turn their findings over to a Grand Jury, which will determine whether any criminal charges should be filed in the case.

The girl, who police did not identify, was taken to an area hospital and then transferred to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.

State police say the girl died Tuesday night.
