South Central Kentucky residents gathered today to observe and honor those who died while serving in America's wars.
Around 100 people joined together at the American Legion Post in Bowling Green to remember our veterans. Many of the veterans in attendance say Memorial Day and the recent war with Iraq brings back many memories. Several distinguished guests were in attendance including House Speaker Jody Richards, Mayor Sandy Jones, and even our own Gene Birk, who introduced the guest speaker.
Bowling Green city officials are dedicating a new cemetery to our veterans. The city will expand Fairview Cemetery to add another area dedicated to those who have served our country. The new Veteran's Memorial Plaza will honor veterans, POW's, and those missing in action. The lot is expected to serve more than 500 veterans for up to 25 years.
